3 BIG Reasons You Should NOT Try The HCG-Diet

Lately it seems that a lot of people have been asking me about this so-called “HCG-diet” and whether it’s safe or healthy. Well, I’ve done my research and it’s no surprise that the answer is a big fat NO!

People who stay on this diet may suffer from an irregular heartbeat and hair-loss, and it’s very likely they’ll regain the weight in less than a year.  Today I’m going to EXPOSE the HCG-Diet for what it really is. Then you can decide for yourself whether it’s something you should try.

What Is The HCG Diet?

This diet first gained some popularity in the 1950’s (yeah, people were looking for easy way out even then) until it became clear that there was insufficient evidence to support its long-term effectiveness.

As with most fad diets, the HCG Diet is making the rounds again bringing with it some pretty far out claims.

HCG is a hormone produced in women by the placenta during pregnancy. HCG is sold as a prescription drug approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for various medical conditions including the treatment of female infertility (NOT weight-loss). The diet requires a daily injection of this hormone along with the crazy commitment to eat JUST 500 CALORIES A DAY!   That’s the equivalent of one small meal – every day for as long as you’re on it.

How Does It Work So Fast?

As with most things, there’s no magic here – people are losing twenty pounds and more per month because they are simply STARVING themselves! If you ate just 500 calories a day, you’ll likely drop weight quickly no matter what you injected into your body.

It’s insane really… it will cost you hundreds of dollars a month and the big “secret” to this diet is the same as very other fad diet… starvation.  I know it sounds like too much fun already, but there’s more…

Let’s Check The Fine Print… because there’s ALWAYS fine print

Like all “miracle” weight loss cures there’s fine print. HCG labels actually state, there’s no substantial evidence that:

“it increases weight-loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction” (starving yourself),
“that it causes a more attractive or ‘normal’ distribution of fat” (loss of just belly fat), or
“that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.” (you’ll still be hungry – ALL THE TIME!)

But Is It Safe?

No matter what your size, this crazy level of calorie restriction is severe and does come with consequences. These include, but are not limited to: gallstones, irregular heartbeat, vitamin & mineral deficiencies and electrolyte imbalance.

In short, it means that the HCG diet is not only unhealthy, it’s dangerous.

I Almost Forgot The Bonuses…

You also get an increased risk of headaches, blood clots, restlessness and depression. Plus you can get pregnancy-like symptoms, such as water retention, breast tenderness and swelling. (I know you guys are looking forward to that).

And finally as an extra bonus, HCG can also cause a condition called OHSS, or ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is potentially life-threatening. (nice!)

In addition to the calorie restriction being unsafe, the HCG hormone is actually illegal for over- the-counter sale in the U.S. In fact, it’s not approved for weight-loss even WITH a prescription. The FDA is warning consumers currently using HCG for fat-loss to stop and to stop following the eating restrictions immediately.  I absolutely agree!

What Can You Do Instead?

Stick to what we know works—eating natural, wholesome foods, healthy supplements and exercise.  Don’t be fooled, misled or tempted by fad starvation diets.  Long term healthy fat loss takes a permanent change of your habits and lifestyle and it’s actually easier than you think.

I think it’s simply ridiculous that so many people keep looking for the “quick fix” for years of bad habits so they fall for dangerous fad diets like this instead of doing the one thing that WILL work – a healthy lifestyle.
